In a Desert Land: Photographs of Israel, Egypt & Jordan was published by Abbeville Press in 1987. The series consists of large format photographs made in in the years 1979-1987. The desert, with its boundless primeval landscape is the foundation of all cultures in the area.

Vast expanses bounded only by the horizon have been a major theme of Folberg’s works ever since. Prints from these images are in major collections and have been exhibited at galleries and museums worldwide, among them the National Gallery of Australia & the Israel Museum.

The New York Times wrote: “The deserts of Israel, Egypt and Jordan seem never to have sat for a lens quite as magical as Neil Folberg’s…Spectacular is not too effusive a word.”
